Y is for You

October 23, 2007

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.” Psalm 23

In this psalm, David is talking about how God has given him a place of comfort and plenty even in the midst of his enemies. Somewhere where he is safe and has peace, despite the chaos around him.

When David talks about his enemies he might be talking about people who are trying to hurt him—like Saul, or Absalom. However, he also could be speaking of his sins, his faults, or his problems. These are also his enemies. They are constantly surrounding him and hurting him. He seeks the help of God to deliver him.

God gives us a place of comfort and plenty even in the middle of, and despite, our sins and faults.

We should do this for others.

M is for Music

I like it when a song’s lyrics, rhythm and melody convey the same idea.

Listen to this:

The song is called “You Move Me,” and the lyrics talk about someone being gently moved. They rhythm is soft but conveys movement well. The melody is simple and predictable. The chord progression during the verse changes from B flat to D Minor which also conveys a sense of stable movement.

I think you could look at this song from a Christian perspective. Christ gently moves us toward Himself with his love.

G is for Guitar

Actually, this guy isn’t playing a guitar, but a ukulele (four strings instead of six). If I could play this song on my guitar, like he does on his ukulele, I think I would be happy.
